On September 20, 1494, 'Hendrick Pietersz 'Oudt-Heyn and syn wyf' requested leave from the aldermen of the banne Westzaanen to build a house on what is now the Lagedijk. This 'building application' is therefore the foundation date of Zaandijk. But what about the term 'old wives'? One hell of a bitch!
